Fairtrade Fortnight: Fairtrade Bake Off!

For Fairtrade Fortnight 2015, we celebrated all things Fairtrade with a delicious bake off!

Fairtrade Fortnight is an annual campaign by the Fairtrade Foundation to raise awareness of Fairtrade products and their producers. In 2015, Fairtrade Fortnight focused upon the core commodities of tea, sugar and cocoa along with stories of producers and growers.

The Green Impact workbook contains criteria regarding Fairtrade products. The Bronze tab specifies that Green Impact teams should ensure that all team coffee and sugar purchased by their department is Fairtrade. This is a great way to get staple Fairtrade products embedded into the University!

Here in Sheffield, we encouraged teams to make the switch to Fairtrade; hold a Fairtrade coffee morning; and participate in our Fairtrade Bake Off!

Green Impact teams joined with their entire departments to bake some delicious cakes with as many Fairtrade ingredients as they could. Slices were then sold with the money going to a charity of the teams’ choice. Cakes were judged on taste, appearance, creativity and number of Fairtrade ingredients to decide on our winners.

This is our overall winner; ACS baked a cake with an impressive 7 Fairtrade ingredients!

ACS Bake 5

The Bake Off was a great way of raising awareness throughout the University with loads of departments joining in the fun!
