I think it’s fair to say that our first ‘Big Green Event’ of the year was a pretty big success. We had around 60 people, both staff and students from lots of different departments join us in our efforts, all coming together to tidy up our University campus.

We split the campus up into 7 ‘core’ areas, each with a designated group leader (volunteers from Green Impact teams) who was able to give the group a quick safety brief and hand out the high vis and litter grabbers.
Luckily, the weather was kind to us and we were blessed with a dry spell, which meant we could maximise our efforts and collect a huuuge amount of waste (which we made sure to deal with appropriately). We were rewarded with hot drinks and biscuits at Krebs which was definitely needed after all our hard work.
Not only was it great to group together and clean up our campus, it was also a fantastic opportunity to meet people from different departments and do something different with our lunchtime! We were also able to team up with BetterPoints to earn ourselves double points on the app! *BONUS*

The ‘Big Green Events’ are an opportunity for Green Impact members and the wider University community to get together once a month and take part in events that have a positive impact on the environment. There is also the bonus of gaining extra Green Impact points for attending. We’ll be hosting a range of different events throughout the year, which I’m excited to keep organising!
Our next ‘Big Green Event’ will be a Christmas Jumper Swap Shop – more details soon!
